Fernando joined BHP in January 2012 and is currently Head of Technology, Shale and Conventional, and Acting Vice President Technology, Petroleum, based in Houston, Texas. He is accountable for partnering with the Assets, Operations, Global Functions, and Global CoE’s to drive improvement in safety, volume and cost by enabling and optimising technology and mitigating technology-related risks, as well as ensuring alignment with the technology strategy to create a competitive advantage for these partners. During his BHP tenure, Fernando has led Petroleum Technology’s PMO organization and has held operational infrastructure positions. Fernando has 20+ years of international, multi-industry experience including retail, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and energy. Prior experience includes working for Top 5 consulting firms, where he helped clients develop visions and strategies, deliver key transformation projects, and led a team of subject matter experts. He is a proven track leader in the areas of technology innovation, leadership, development, deployment and adoption. He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Production Planning from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro and master’s degree in Project Management from the University of Houston. He has also recently participated in the Design Thinking Boot Camp at Stanford University. Outside of work, Fernando enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife and two daughters.
